Over the past few years, the debate on why people should vote has snowballed. According to Hattie Lindell of The University of Texas at Austin and Moody College of Communication, "...everyone has an opinion. In America's democracy, we value our ability to choose who is in office and reveal in the fact that we have a say in what goes on in the political world. "
Moving the elections to November 11, Veterans Day would allow more people the opportunity to vote, as well as honoring the soldiers that fought for the United States' freedom and democracy. Through our democracy, we have the right to vote and the ability to voice our opinions. However, when people choose not to vote, they're not exercising their rights, fought for by previous generations of men and women willing to take a stand so that everyone can have a say in who will represent our country.
An important consideration in moving elections to Veterans Day is to add value to the day, which is set aside for honoring those who have served our country. Very few people participate in the events held to honor the men and women who have been in the armed forces. Voting on Veterans Day would help people remember that veterans have fought for our freedom to vote, and a way to honor those men and women would be by exercising that freedom.
For everyone's voice to be heard, it is now time to take action, move the elections to Veterans Day, and allow everyone the chance to vote and honor our veterans.

I really like your post! It's very clear where you stand. Do you think moving the voting day will actually increase voters? Do you think it will take away from Vetrans day?
ReplyDeleteHello Zelda, thank you for reading my blog! In my opinion, I do not think this will take away any value of Veterans day. Instead, I think this will add extra importance to honoring veterans, in fighting for our democracy. Based on feedback from viewers of FairVote.com, this will increase voter outcomes.
DeleteIs there any evidence to suggest that moving voting to Veteran's Day would increase voter turnout?
ReplyDeleteHello Ms. LaClair, based on evidence from FairVote.com, this will increase voter outcomes. Along with increasing voter outcomes, it will also increase the honor we show veterans.
DeleteI like your ideas in this blog. I agree that this wouldn't be a bad idea, but do you think it would make things difficult for voters?
